Reinforcing the Core Values of Humanity

SPARK is a values-based initiative designed to raise consciousness that we can choose to be kind. SPARK, which was introduced in the maiden edition of the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) week in 2017, espouses reigniting our values which appear to be eroding fast. The initiative focuses on creating and reinforcing an attitude of going beyond just meeting the material needs of people who are unable to help themselves, to showing compassion, empathy and affection.

Impact Nuggets

In implementing SPARK, we have made an impact in the following;

  • We partnered with over 22 charities/foundations including the Down Syndrome Foundation; Sickle Cell Foundation; National Association of the Blind; Nigeria Red Cross Society; Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted; International Women Society.
  • 100 beneficiaries including petty traders who received a capital boost, students who received school fees support and people with health challenges who got various forms of assistance
  • Disaster relief support to over 600,000 internally displaced Persons in North East and Benue flood victims.
  • Baby Ijeoma got another chance to live… Baby Ijeoma is one of the many beneficiaries nominated through the SPARK initiative platform. She had a heart condition and the parents could not afford N4 million – the estimated cost to help save her life. Through the SPARK initiative, she got a corrective surgery in India in partnership with Vama Wave Foundation.

The pillars of SPARK which include compassion; civility; charity; and connection is ingrained in the DNA of the Bank’s culture.
