In Nigeria, school closures mean that 39,440,016 affected learners are unable to gain access to education, of which 2,020,668 are of pre-school age, 25,591,181 are of primary school age, 10,314,796 are in secondary school and 1,513,371 are enrolled at tertiary institutions. UNESCO’s monitoring shows that over 87% of pupils in more than 165 countries have been affected by this disruption.
Curious Learning offer a number of mobile applications designed to empower young children in a fun, self-guided learning process through exploration and curiosity.
Feed the Monster – This reading fundamentals app targets 3 to 8 years of age children in a gamified format to match letters with sounds and has over 100 hours or 12 weeks of learning material, focusing on learning the sounds and forms of letters in addition to decoding. Ideal to develop early reading and spelling skills. (available in 48 languages, including English, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa).
Read with Akili – These interactive e-storybooks emphasize the meanings of words designed to promote word-level reading skills and vocabulary growth for 3 to 8 years old, it builds reading accuracy and provide proficiency in reading texts. (currently available in English and Swahili;; and can be localized to Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba in 4 weeks).
