Akin Akinfemiwa was appointed a Non-Executive Director on the Board of First Bank of Nigeria Limited in May 2022. He brings to the board a vast experience in transformational leadership, ideation, and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives which he has demonstrated throughout his career across different fields including Engineering, Information Technology, Banking, Commodity Trading, Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Corporate Restructuring as well as high-value Mergers and Acquisitions, to mention a few.
He has served, and still serving in various leadership positions as a seasoned Director on the Board of major companies including Amperion Power Distribution Company, Forte Oil Plc (2011-2019), Forte Upstream Services Limited (2011-2019), AP Oil and Gas Ltd, Ghana (2011-2019). He was also Chairman, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and currently a trustee of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Trust Fund (UIAATF).
He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Geregu Power Plc, a leading power generation company in Nigeria. Prior to this, he served as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Forte Oil Plc (now Ardova Plc) from 2011 to 2019 where his business acumen was instrumental to the leap of the company’s oil marketing business from a distant sixth position to become the second largest major oil marketing company (by market share and profitability) in Nigeria.
Akin holds a B.sc Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Information Technology from the University of Lincoln, United Kingdom. He is also an alumnus of the Said Business School, University of Oxford’s Advanced Management and Leadership Programme. He has attended several management and leadership programs at the Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School and the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA), a Registered Engineer on the Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN), a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and the Institute of Directors, United Kingdom and Nigeria.
Akin is happily married with children and enjoys golfing and cycling as pastimes.
