Akin Akinfemiwa was appointed a Non-Executive Director on the Board of First Bank of Nigeria Limited in January 2022. He brings to the Board vast experience in transformational leadership, ideation, and execution of strategic initiatives, which he has demonstrated throughout his career across diverse sectors including Engineering, Information Technology, Banking, Commodity Trading, Oil and Gas, Power Generation, Corporate Restructuring, and high-value Mergers and Acquisitions.
Until January 2026, he served as the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Geregu Power Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading power generation companies, where he provided strategic leadership and drove the company’s growth within the country’s power sector. Prior to this, he served as Group Chief Executive Officer of Forte Oil Plc (now Ardova Plc) from 2011 to 2019, playing a pivotal role in transforming the company’s oil marketing business into the second-largest major oil marketing company in Nigeria by market share and profitability. He has also served as Director of Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forte Upstream Services Limited (FUSL), and Director of AP Oil and Gas Ltd, Ghana. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and is a Trustee of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Trust Fund (UIAATF).
Akin holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Information Technology from the University of Lincoln, United Kingdom. He is also an alumnus of the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford’s Advanced Management and Leadership Programme. He has attended several management and leadership programmes at Harvard Business School, Wharton School, and the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Credit Administration (FICA), a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and the Institute of Directors in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
Akin is happily married with children and enjoys golfing and cycling as pastimes.
