Ikoyi Club 1938 is the product of two clubs, the European Club and The Lagos Golf Club. They became one on September 29th, 1938. The foundation stone of the block was laid in 1938. The various sporting events that can be enjoyed at the club include Golf, Swimming, Lawn Tennis, Squash, Badminton, Table Tennis and Billiards/Snooker.
The club has grown from its “European Only” membership into one of the best examples of multiracial clubs with worldwide membership. The modern day Ikoyi Club 1938 is a story of success, occupies approximately 456 acres of land, and provides first class facilities for about 10,000 members. The club has overseeing Trustees while the management of the club is entrusted into the hands of a Committee which is elected annually. The Committee appoints a General Manager as Chief Executive who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the club. Ikoyi Club 1938 hosts numerous sports facilities.
There is a standard 18 hole golf course, where various Golf tournaments and Championships are played throughout the year and attracts golfers from all over the world. The Lawn Tennis section has nine standard courts with a centre court complex with a capacity of sitting 1,000 spectators. The club now has a fully air conditioned squash court complex with each court having a rear wall of glass and a sitting gallery for spectators.
In addition there is the swimming pool area, indoor badminton courts, table tennis hall, billiards & snooker games rooms. In all these sports, the club retains the services of professionals who organize coaching classes for members. Other amenities include sauna baths, barber’s shop, medical centre where trained nurses are always in attendance. Ikoyi Club 1938 is the largest and most active recreational / social club in West Africa.
