Visa Debit Multi-Currency

The FirstBank Visa Debit Multi-Currency card is first of its kind to be offered by any financial institution in Nigeria. Customers within and outside the country can now enjoy the luxury of having their local and foreign denominated accounts linked to a single Debit card. It is an enhancement to the existing Visa Debit Dual Currency card and can be linked to either or all your NAIRA, USD, EURO and GBP accounts. It is an international card with Chip and PIN technology which can be used to make payment anywhere in the world and across all channels – ATMs, POS & Web.

2: How do I activate my Visa Debit Multi-Currency card for ATM / POS transactions?

To activate your card, kindly follow the steps below:

  • Check your PIN Mailer to be sure it’s intact and not tampered with.
  • Input the four-digit PIN as contained in the PIN Mailer on any FirstBank ATM.
  • Change the default PIN inputted, by selecting new four-digit PIN on any FirstBank ATM. Do note to destroy your PIN Mailer after changing your PIN and always keep your PIN secret.

Your PIN is personal. Do not disclose it to anyone!

3: How do I activate my Visa Debit Multi-Currency card for WEB transactions?

To make payments on ‘Verified-by-Visa’ (VbV) enabled websites, please generate your ‘I-PIN’ (Internet PIN) on a FirstBank ATM following the steps below:

  • Insert your card and input your ‘ATM PIN’, select the option ‘PIN CHANGE’ and then choose ‘I-PIN’
  • Type in your ‘I-PIN’ (any 5 to 6 digits of your choice) and re-enter same for confirmation.
  • Kindly wait for the ATM to display or print “PIN CHANGE SUCCESSFUL”.

Transactions on FirstBank ATM is free

5: What is the Local ATM withdrawal fee (Other Banks ATMs)?

N65/transaction from the fourth (4th) cash withdrawal in a month.

6: What is the International ATM withdrawal fee?

$3 (or its equivalent in Euro and GBP)

7: What is the Local POS & WEB fee?

Transactions on local POS & WEB is free

8: What is the International POS & WEB fee?

Transactions on International POS & WEB is free

9: What is the monthly maintenance fee?

N50 for Naira card variant. Not applicable for USD, Euro and GBP card variant.

10: What is the annual maintenance fee?

$20 for Dollar card variant (or its equivalent in Euro and GBP). Not applicable for Naira card variant.

11: Can I request for POS / WEB limit increase on my Visa Debit Multi-Currency card?

Yes. Kindly fill a concession form at any of our branches to increase your POS / Web spending limits.

12: Do I need to have all four (4) account currencies to get the Visa Debit Multi-Currency card?

No. Card request can be done on the Naira account currency (NGN) and thereafter be linked to the domiciliary account of choice.

13: Can I transact anywhere in the world, where only one foreign account (e.g. GBP) is linked to my Visa Debit Multi-Currency card?

Yes. Transactions carried out, would be debited to the linked foreign account, irrespective of the spend region.

14: Where all three currencies – USD, GBP & EURO are linked to my card, can I choose to spend from any account when within a region of the three major currencies?

No. Transactions consummated in USA would automatically be debited to the USD account, in UK would be debited to the GBP account, while transactions done in EURO spending nations would be debited to the EURO account.

15: Where all three currencies – USD, GBP & EURO are linked to my card, can I request that the accounts be swapped when transacting within a region of the three major currencies?

No. The accounts cannot be swapped as these are mapped to each region by default, while the appropriate account, depending on the region of transaction, is debited accordingly.

16: What is a Default account (Primary)?

A Default Account (Primary) which MUST be provided by the customer on the application form – USD, EURO or GBP, is the account that the customer would like to be debited for all his/her cross-border transactions when transacting outside the USD, Euro or GBP environment. The Default Account (Primary) MUST also be captured on ViaCard on the Default Account (Primary) field on ViaCard.

17: If I have the three foreign currencies (USD, EURO and GBP) linked to my card and I provided EURO as my Default Account (Primary), which of these accounts will debited when transacting in Dubai or Ghana?

The EURO account will be debited since this is the Default Account (Primary) provided by the customer.

18: If I have just two currencies (USD and EURO) linked to my card and did a transaction in UK, which of the accounts would be debited?

The Default Account (Primary) which could be USD or EURO, MUST have been provided by the customer at the time of making the request and this will be debited accordingly.

19: How do I request for a swap of my Default Account (Primary) when transacting in a region outside the three major currencies – USD, GBP & EURO?
