FIRSTBANK, KATSINA
STATE DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT FINANCE PACKAGE
The Katsina State Government and First Bank of Nigeria Plc
have agreed to partner on some developmental projects in a
bid to boost the state’s economy. This is a fall-out of the
business proposal submitted by the Bank recently during a
courtesy business visit of the Bank to the Katsina State
Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema.
In the interim, the projects identified cut across all
sectors covering social and economic strata of the state.
Welcoming the Bank’s directors, led by Dr. Umaru Mutallab,
CON (Chairman); the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr.
Moyo Ajekigbe; General Garba Duba (rtd); Alhaji Abdullahi
Mahmoud; Alhaji Aliyu Alkali; Mr. Ola Oyelola, Executive
Director, North and Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Executive
Director, Risk & Management Control, Governor Shema thanked
the board of the Bank for the visit, adding that FirstBank
is the first financial institution to pay him a business
visit since he assumed the leadership of the state.
“You are the first bank board to pay a visit to this
administration, the first bank to produce a commissioner of
finance for this state and you have a first class financial
guru as chairman who happens to come from this state."
“I would say here that we are grateful to the board and
management of FirstBank for this proposal and I want to
assure you that we will see how we can tap into a mutually
beneficial relationship between the state and FirstBank.”
Dr. Mutallab had lauded the performance of the governor
since he assumed the mantle of leadership adding that he has
no doubt about his capability to transform the state.
His words:” We are here to felicitate with you on your
election and to wish you God’s guidance. We are glad that
you have found one of us fit to serve in your government.
People know our Bank’s reputation and pedigree and as a bank
with respect for sound corporate governance and best
practices. Suffice it to say that we have enjoyed good
banking relationship with Katsina State”.
In his presentation of a formal proposal, Mr. Ajekigbe also
commended the Governor for appointing Alhaji Adamu Babangida
Ibrahim, the Bank’s former Business Development Manager
(BDM) for Kaduna as his Finance Commissioner, adding “we are
challenged that you have picked one of us as your
commissioner for finance because whatever he does will be a
reflection of the Bank. We are, therefore, grateful for your
confidence in FirstBank”.
