FIRSTBANK
SUPPORTS IGUE FESTIVAL
First Bank of Nigeria Plc threw its
weight behind the annual Igue Festival which held in Benin City, the
Edo State capital last December. The annual traditional festival,
arguably the most important and oldest festival in Benin Kingdom is
revered by all Binis home and abroad.
FirstBank’s support for the festival
is in sync with its tradition of nurturing and sustaining the
cultural heritage of Nigerians. It is also a reiteration of the
Bank’s support for its host communities. The Bank has been a
consistent supporter of the festival for over a decade.
Receiving the FirstBank team during a
courtesy visit to his palace, the Benin monarch, His Royal Highness,
Omo N’oba N’edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediuwa commended FirstBank for its
continued support over the years, saying that the annual success of
the festival was achieved largely because of the support of the
Bank.
“On behalf of my people, I thank your
Bank for your continued support for our cultural values. Your
contribution to the festival over the years is noted and we pray
that God will continue to guide the affairs of your Bank. Thank
you”, he said.
Earlier, the Benin Business
Development Manager of FirstBank, Mr. Azaka Jarret, who led the
FirstBank team to the palace, thanked the Oba for his support for
the Bank. He said the Bank’s support for the Igue festival, and its
sponsorship of other art and cultural events across the country,
stemmed from the conviction that there is the need for a concerted
effort to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Nigerian
people, adding that Benin is very strategic to the business of the
Bank.
