Over the last 15years, FirstBank has dominated the Money Transfer market on account of being the first bank to offer the service in Nigeria as a Western Union agent. In May of 2010, MoneyGram was added to the portfolio of products, thus offering a wider choice of services to the customer.
Both Western Union and MoneyGram are operated as franchise products where the bank provides its outlets as payout points to beneficiaries for monies remitted into Nigeria primarily from United States and Europe, but also from several other countries where Nigerians in diaspora abound.
Western Union and MoneyGram together control about 90% of the money transfer market in Nigeria and have a reputation for safe, fast, reliable platforms for this service. Money is available to collect in any of the FirstBank branches within minutes of being sent through a money transfer agent in any part of the world. The beneficiary does not pay any fees, all fees are paid by the sender.
Over the years FirstBank has built a sturdy reputation in the market place with its wide network of branches, a strong partnership with Western Union and a penchant for providing longer hours of customer friendly services to its customers. The service is available in over 500 branch locations as well as in over 45 weekend/holiday centres.
