FBN Capital, the Investment Banking and Asset Management business of the First Bank Group, played host to a number of Ministers, institutional investors and some of Nigeria’s leading corporations at the maiden edition of the FBN Capital Investor Conference which took place from November 28 – 30, 2011 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Speaking on the final day of the Conference in Lagos, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke said Nigeria’s oil and gas sector faces a new dawn as it moves to the next level of its development.
“With the transformation agenda in place to promote an enabling environment, the oil and gas industry is undergoing major reforms to enhance the petro-chemicals sector. Nigeria is well endowed with oil and gas resources, which if properly harnessed, will move the country to one of the top three producers in the world within the next decade,” said Mrs Alison-Madueke.
She said the objective was to accelerate growth to ensure the oil and gas sector, the most mature sector in the economy, contributed to realising Nigeria’s potential to be the fastest growing economy is Africa.
In terms of the government’s Gas Master Plan, private sector investment is seen as crucial to growing gas-based industries with a view to positioning Nigeria as a regional hub. The Niger Delta holds Nigeria’s greatest volume of gas reserves. Amongst the initiatives planned to realise the goal to make Nigeria a regional hub for the broader petro-chemicals are two fertiliser plants and, three gas pipeline projects.
FBN Capital’s MD/CEO, Osaze Osifo, described the conference themed 'From BRICS TO BRINCS: A Real Conversation' as a great success, adding that it had clearly revealed the huge opportunities for both local and offshore investment in the oil and non-oil sectors of the economy.
